School Hours: School hours are 8:00am—3:10pm. Students may begin arriving at 7:15am. The traffic is much lighter from 7:15am—7:35 am. Students arriving after 8:00am will be counted tardy. Parents may want to consider car-pooling to avoid the long lines. Tardies are recorded and students with more than 3 tardies in a nine week period will not be eligible for perfect attendance awards.

Arrival Students should never be dropped off in the parking lot Please only park and walk students in if you have business to attend to in the school If you park, you must exit back through the car rider line: please do not pass cars that are still dropping off students Pull all the way to the first column or the next available designated stop Remember, there are no left turns after 7:30 Back parking lot option: 7:45-7:55, students must be able to open own door and exit car—this is a fast drop off

Dismissal Display card with child’s name for the caller Please do not pass cars in line Parents may not walk up to the front and get a child from the car rider line Please arrive by 3:20; after 3:30 parents will need to park, come in to the school, present an ID and sign student out Change of Transportation needs to be done by 2:00

Rainy Day Procedure Rainy day dismissal will be called at 2:45 Bus riders and day care vans will be loaded as normal under the covered breezeways. During heavy rains or lightening, car riders will remain in the hallways and will be called from there. Walkers: during heavy rains with any visible lightening or audible thunder, all walkers will become car-riders. These students will be moved to the front of the school with the car riders. If it is sprinkling or just a normal rain shower, students will be allowed to walk home as usual. On any rainy day, walker parents may call the school at 2:45 to change transportation or check to see if we are allowing walkers to walk as normal.

Lunch Parents eating lunch with their children will eat in the cafeteria with their children; however, we have limited seating available. Due to the size of the cafeteria, we will be unable to safely add additional tables, so some days it may be standing room only for lunch guests.

Birthdays Parents may provide cupcakes or cookies for birthdays Cakes, or anything that requires a plate, juice, balloons, flowers… are not allowed Please consult with your child’s teacher about any food allergies in the classroom

Grading Policy Grades 3-4 Students in 2nd through 4th grades receive numerical grades.  A=90-100 B=80-89 C=75-79 D=70-74 F=Below 70 Other Areas Non-numerical grades will be assigned for other areas including:, Music, Physical Education, Handwriting, Health, Art. The following symbols are used to indicate a student’s progress: S – Satisfactory progress N – Needs Improvement U – Unsatisfactory progress Conduct and Work Habits Non-numerical grades will be assigned for Conduct and Work Habits using the following symbols: E – Excellent

Failing Assignments Redoing Failing Assignments (assignments recorded in grade book) Daily Work: After re-teaching occurs, the work will be completed at school. Students may receive full credit up to a 70%. Tests/Assessments: Students have the opportunity to re-do a failing grade and earn full credit up to a 70% on any test/assessment. The only exception to this policy is if a teacher chooses to delete the grade for the entire class, then the teacher will re-teach and give a new test/assessment to all students

Committing to Your Child’s Education Cockrell is designated as a Title 1 school that receives federal funds for classroom support. Title I School-Parent Compacts School-parent compacts are agreements developed between parents and school staff to help children achieve to high standards. The compacts recognize that families and schools need to work together toward mutual goals and that they share responsibilities for each student's performance.

Homework All homework is passed out on Mondays Due: Wednesday- Spelling Thursday- Math Friday- Super Sentences & Reading a total of 80 minutes Agendas (checked on Fridays) Students should write all their homework assignments in their agendas on Mondays. They need to read a total of 80 minutes Monday –Thursday night. Parent Signature

Volunteering in our School All volunteers and field trip chaperones are required to register as a parent volunteer by logging on to www.pearlandisd.org and clicking on the Parent Tab This must be done every school year Volunteers are required to sign-in at the school office before proceeding to their designated area
