Smart Modular Actuator

Definition: Communicating Actuator: A communicating actuator is an actuator that does not perform any control loop function. It is a replacement of a traditional actuator where the information sharing with the controller is done through a communication bus. The results is an increased of information to the controller. The benefit is a reduction of numbers of IOM on the job site As such it belongs on SABus Smart Actuator: A smart actuator is an actuator that does perform control loop function. It is the combination of Tier3 and Tier4 device. The VMA is the poster child of a smart actuator The benefit is a reduction installation cost by avoiding electrical cabinets.

Smart Actuator Applications Pressure disturbance rejection actuator for valve Fan Coil Hydronics systems Combining actuator with basic function such as RWD62/RLU210 6-way ball valves for chilled beam Distributed AHU

Engineering Proposal – Smart Modular Actuator (SMA)

Mobile to configure regardless of BAS or standalone Outputs Connectivity SA Bus FC Bus IP BAS Present X Standalone Mobile to configure regardless of BAS or standalone Outputs 1 AO – ECM or 3 Speed 1 AO – Damper 1 CO – Heating valve or Electrical Heat 1 Relay – Fan Cutout Inputs 2 UI – (Discharge Air & Condensation) SMART Or Or Room Temp Room Humidity Set point change Fan speed command Occupancy Elec Heat

Smart Actuator V1 - Features Smart Modular Actuator (SMA) using the M9310 platform Target application - fan coil applications (modified T8800 FC app) There will be 2 Analog Outputs ( 2 wires, 1 per ) There will be 2 Universal Input (requires 2 wires to exit actuator). There will be 1 CO ( 1 wire) There will be 1 Relay for fan output ( 1 wire) There will be MTSP connection to Field Bus (requires 4 wires to exit actuator) There will be MSTP SA Bus connection for connecting Net Sensors. 24 VAC connection (requires 2 wires to exit actuator) SMC will communicate to NAE on Field Bus (FB) MAP can connect RJ jack of Network Sensor on SA Bus, which will allow wireless configuration of actuator using mobile device

Smart Actuator Details – Smart Controller For the IOs, NAE connectivity, and running FAC application, a Smart Modular Controller (SMC) will be built using JBOC (LC3 POC) design. SMC will use UART interface to communicate with the Actuator SMC will be RX111 based SMC will have 2AO, 2UI, 1 CO, and 1 Relay, MSTP Field Bus (FB) – for NAE SMC will It will have 2 MSTP connection ( 1 FB, and 1 SA BUS) SMC will run Fan Coil closed loop control (modified T8800 FC app) SMA will not have dip switch for the address, but will use default address, configured with Tools at factory, that can be changed using MAP SMA will not have end of line switch, but end of line can be changed using Map SMA IO Board will be separate from the controller board

Smart Actuator V2 - Features Smart Modular Actuator (SMA) using the M9310 platform Target application - fan coil applications (modified T3000 FC app) There will be 2 Analog Outputs ( 2 wires, 1 per ) There will be 2 Universal Input (requires 2 wires to exit actuator). There will be 1 CO ( 1 wire) There will be 1 Relay for fan output ( 1 wire) There will be MTSP connection to Field Bus (requires 4 wires to exit actuator). SMC will communicate to wired Network Sensor on SA Bus 24 VAC connection (requires 2 wires to exit actuator) SMC will communicate to NAE using WiFi. SMC will communicate to WRZ Zigbee sensor Zigbee wireless sensor is supported by connecting WRZ-7860 on SA Bus Configuration of actuator using mobile device directly (Map will not be needed)

Smart Controller Team Actuator SMA Teams SW/FW - Hunter (Tech Lead/Dev), Vinod (Dev), Sudhnashu (Dev) , Aasir (Dev/Test), Jen (PM), Dinesh (Architect) HW- Chris Merkl, Apps – Aaron Wagner Actuator Chris Merkl, Gary Romanowich, Nick Prato, Steve Sand, Kevin Weiss
