3.2 Circulatory System.
 Transports nutrients and removes waste from the body.  Supplies blood and oxygen to the body.
Keeping Your Body Healthy - Cardiovascular System -
Heart Related Problem. The Heart is the center of the Cardiovascular System. Through the body's Blood Vessels, the heart pumps blood to all the body cells.

Cardiovascular System Overview

Functions of the Cardiovascular System Brings oxygen and nutrients to all body cells Removes waste (carbon dioxide) Heart is the pump that pushes blood through all arteries and veins

Development By week 5 of pregnancy, the heart begins to develop. Weeks 6-7 – the heart continues to develop and beats at a regular rhythm, main vessels move blood

Label and describe the parts of the heart and blood flow pathway

Gas Exchange in Lungs and Body Tissues

Summary In your notebook, write a paragraph explaining how gas exchange occurs in the body and in the lungs. Use your vocab list to include as many vocab terms as possible.

Gas Exchange in The Lungs and body Tissue Diffusion is the process in which molecules move from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration. In the body, Carbon Dioxide and Oxygen must be exchanged in the lungs and body tissues through the process of diffusion. Oxygenated blood moves from the heart to the arteries, arterioles, and then capillaries. Here red blood cells deliver oxygen to the body cells through diffusion and pick up carbon dioxide. Oxygen moves from the red blood cells (higher concentration) to the body cells (lower concentration), and trades places with Carbon dioxide. Blood then returns to the heart through venules and veins. The blood goes to the lungs and in the capillaries surrounding the alveoli, gas exchange happens again.

How do you keep your Cardiovascular system healthy? STOP SMOKING!!! Blood pressure Lower Cholesterol Eat a healthy diet (low in saturated and trans fats- brown foods, not white) Exercise and maintain a healthy weight and reduce stress Learn about the symptoms of heart attacks Symptoms of a heart attack: • Chest pain that lasts several minutes or goes away and comes back. You may feel a squeezing sensation in your chest • Pain and discomfort in other areas of the body, including the arms, back, neck, stomach and jaw • Cold sweats, vomiting, nausea, indigestion and unexplained fatigue • Shortness of breath Females are more likely than males to experience the common symptoms, mainly nausea/vomiting, back or jaw pain and shortness of breath.
