Welcome to 7th Grade Science Class!!!

I am Ms. Madaris!!!

Around 20 years ago, I was just like you… In 7th grade!!!

My favorite classes were always SCIENCE ENGLISH

My favorite science topic was always ANIMALS!!!

I grew up in Spring City. GO BULLDOGS!!! 

I also attended Rhea County High School and graduated 13th in my class of over 300 in 1995. GO EAGLES!!!

I then went to Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville, TN I then went to Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville, TN. Where I began studying Zoology.

But zoology wasn’t what I really wanted to do But zoology wasn’t what I really wanted to do. I discovered in college my passion for teaching…

I graduated with two bachelors degrees from Tn I graduated with two bachelors degrees from Tn. Tech: one in zoology and one in Secondary Education (biology) in 2001.

Three months later, I began teaching at RCES as a 6th grade science teacher. (later moving up to 7th grade) GO JACKETS!!!

Now, I am teaching at RMS as a 7th grade science teacher. GO EAGLES!!! (AGAIN)

This means getting up earlier!!! I love teaching at RMS so much that I drive from Spring City everyday just to teach here. This means getting up earlier!!! And driving farther!!!

I have one sister named Starr. She is four years younger than me.

She now has three children, which are my nieces and nephew. Katlynn is now 3 years old. Bella is now 10 years old and is in fifth grade. (Spring City) Ashton is now 13 years old and is in eighth grade. (Spring City)

I love to camp…

Hike…

Fish…

Shop…

Travel…

And play with my nieces and nephew.

My favorite t.v. show is…

My favorite musician/band…

My favorite food is… ITALIAN FOOD!!!

My greatest fears… SNAKES!!! HEIGHTS!!!

My pet peeves… No name work, students that don’t try, wasting time, rude people, etc.

I am so looking forward to this year!

Supplies REQUIRED -3 ring binder -loose leaf paper -pencil (preferably mechanical) or pen (NO RED) -5 tab dividers -coloring pencils

Supplies cont’d OPTIONAL -ziploc baggies (any size) -hand held pencil sharpeners -markers (any kind) -pens (no red or pink) -copy paper -glue sticks -sticky notes -hi lighters -germ-x -clorox wipes -kleenex -paper towels

Some things we will be learning are…

Earth Science Plate tectonics Volcanoes Earthquakes Layers of the earth Rock cycle Rocks Minerals

Physical Science Waves Speed Velocity Newton’s laws of motion Simple Machines Work Force

Life Science Cells and their parts Plant reproduction Mitosis DNA Heredity Photosynthesis Oxygen cycle

We will be doing multiple units.

Each unit will consist of a pretest, multiple assignments, labs, projects, quizzes, post test, etc…

Plus a vocabulary quiz and a 9 weeks test each quarter over the materials covered.

Make-Up Work You are now in 7th grade. I will not be coming to find you to collect this work or give it to you. It is YOUR responsibility to see what you missed and get it turned in. Make-up work board Worksheets you missed will be in the paper boxes. If you miss a test or quiz, YOU must schedule a time to come make it up or risk being pulled out of PE/band to get it made up. You have as many days as you were absent to get the work turned in. After that, they become late.

Gradebook All grades will count once in the gradebook, with the exception of tests (count twice) and some other highly important tests and/or projects. (which will be discussed at a later date)

Homework/Classwork I know students have a lot going on outside of school. That makes it very important that you work while you are here. For me, homework is what you don’t get finished in class. (Use your time wisely) If you work hard while you are HERE, you won’t need to work hard when you are HOME too!

EXPECTATIONS I HAVE OF YOU… I expect you to TRY. I expect you to BE PREPARED. I expect RESPECT. I expect PUNCTUALITY. I expect COMMUNICATION with you. Most importantly, if you do the previous steps, then I expect SUCCESS!

Progress Reports -Now there are four NINE WEEK GRADING PERIODS!!! -Progress reports will go home by the beginning of the 5th week of each grading period. It will be required that these get signed and returned to me.

There are only two ways to NOT succeed in this class: NOT TRYING  NOT DOING

Late Work Late work is NOT accepted. Assignments not turned in when they are due, will result in a PERMANENT zero. This includes make up work that is NOT turned in within the number of days allowed to get it in. (= to number of days you were absent) I generally drop the lowest grade, but missing assignments, quizzes, and tests will NOT be dropped. ***Generally speaking, each zero you have at the end of the quarter can drop your average 1 letter grade at the very least!!!

REMEMBER: I am your “Momma Goose” If you need something, let me know! If you feel upset, let me know! If you need to talk to someone, let me know! I LOVE EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU!!!!!!! that is why I AM HERE!!!!!! that is why I EXPECT TO YOU TO GIVE ME YOUR BEST!!!!!! that is why I EXPECT TO GIVE YOU MY VERY BEST IN EVERY WAY AND EVERYDAY!!!!!! You will be treated the way you treat others.

Ways to contact me… Email me: mccoyL@rheacounty.org Website: www.rheacounty.org  “staff”  Madaris Plus, you now know where to find me: Room 22

Any questions???
