Mission sTatement " FDA is responsible for protecting the public health by assuring the safety, efficiency, and security of human and veterinary drugs, biological products, medical devices, our nation's food supply, cosmetics, and products that emit radiation."

Origin The FDA was formed in 1906 after the Pure Food and Drugs Act was passed. This act was made in response to over 100 serious health violations in the "consumer product marketplace." The person to thank for the passage of this act is Harvey Washington Wiley who put the act in place.

FDA Purpose To advance the public health by assuring medical and food products are... More effective Safer More affordable

Some laws enforced by the fda "The Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act of 1938 was passed after a legally marketed toxic elixir killed 107 people, including many children. The FD&C Act completely overhauled the public health system. Among other provisions, the law authorized the FDA to demand evidence of safety for new drugs, issue standards for food, and conduct factory inspections." "The Medical Device Amendments of 1976 followed a U.S. Senate finding that faulty medical devices had caused 10,000 injuries, including 731 deaths. The law applied safety and effectiveness safeguards to new devices."

Today the fda Regulated $1 trillion worth of products each year They ensure safety of... All food, except meat, poultry, and some egg products All drugs Biological products Medical devices Animal drugs and feed Cosmetics Products that emit radiation
