Looking Ahead The rapid advance in science and technology that began in the 1500’s has continued to this day. Thinkers like Bacon, Descartes, and Newton used scientific method in pursuit of knowledge. Such ideas would push Europe ahead and lead to the Enlightenment of the 1700’s and a growing belief in human progress.
