Mrs. Brown’s News Science A Peek at our Week Math Homework September 26, 2016 Mrs. Brown’s News Vocabulary Words Fruits-plant part containing the seeds Pollen- the male sex cell of a plant Ovary- a structure that contains eggs Cones- the male and female reproductive parts of a conifer tree Pollination- the transfer of a flower’s pollen from the stamen to pistil Sexual Reproduction- when plants reproduce using male and female parts Photosynthesis- how plants make food using carbon dioxide, sunlight and water Stomata: pores on the outside of a leaf Transpiration- The release of water vapor through the stomata Respiration: The release of energy Food chair: the transfer of energy from one organism to another in the form of food Science We will review Chapter 2 this week and take our comprehensive exam on Friday. It will be over Photosynthesis and Sexual Reproduction in Plants. Students need to be able to recall ALL the vocabulary from this chapter as well. Vocabulary words are in their Science section of their binders. By now, students should be very comfortable multiplying by a 1-digit number and they should be getting the hang of multiplying by 2-digit numbers. We have learned several different way to multiply. Ask you child to show you how to multiply the traditional way, the lattice way and using “the box”. We will review multiplication and start division this week. A Peek at our Week The book fair starts this week! Children will have a chance to preview the books on Tuesday. Be on the lookout for their wish list. Our day to purchase the books will be Wednesday. Parent preview night will be Tuesday from 5-7pm. Please come in to see and support our librarian, Mrs. Sanderford, and all her hard work!
