Aliens ALIENS

The Public Believes 3.7 million people in the US believe they have been abducted by aliens. (Hopkins, Jacobs, Westrum,1991) Kelton Research -- National Geographic poll 2012 Thirty-six percent of Americans, about 80 million people, believe UFOs exist, and a tenth believe they have spotted one, 77 percent of Americans believe there are signs that aliens have visited Earth. Asked what respondents would do if aliens visited Earth. Nearly a quarter said they would try to befriend the extraterrestrials, 13 percent said they would lock themselves indoors, and just one in 20 said they would "try to inflict bodily harm."

The Harris Poll® #97, December 16, 2013

Most Scientists Believe Most scientists (i.e. Carl Sagan) believe that extraterrestrials exist somewhere in the universe.

Types of Aliens Nordics-human like appearance, long flowing hair, people are typically struck by their beauty, they radiate or glow Grays-white or gray skin, egg-shaped head, big cat-like eyes, slit for a mouth, small nostrils, thin clawed limbs Reptilian

Types of contact: Contactees Adamski case 1952 report positive, consensual experiences with E.T.s Click here for Adamski’s book detailing his experiences FLYING SAUCERS HAVE LANDED message of peace and concern for mankind’s warlike ways. Use of Christian symbolism Howard Menger From Outspace to You encounter beautiful space woman and visited alien base on the moon. Hero quest-Aliens gave a positive message to earth. They come to save us or warn us from destroying our planet. Sense of cosmic community/communion-new age movement Contactees enjoy their experiences and look forward to the next one. They feel privileged and happily recount their travels and trips to other planets.

Types of contact: Alien Abduction Alien Abduction Betty and Barney Hill Abduction Under hypnosis both provide same story Alien Abduction (History Channel documentary) Noted Harvard psychiatrist, Mack’s (1995) research on abductees led him to believe their claims to be true. Similarity of stories/encounters-loss of time, memory loss, unexplained pains etc. All available studies show that the abductees are psychologically “normal”

Implants and Hybrids Hopkin’s research shows that people have been abducted several times over their during lives. Abductees have been experimented on, given implants, and used for breeding purposes. Hybrids-are a production of alien/human mating

Experiencers People who have come to view their initial frightening alien experience in a positive light.

Alien Abduction Experiences According to Jacobs (1992), five experiences are commonly associated with UFO abduction reports. They are presented here, along with the frequency with which they were reported in a representative sample of the population surveyed by the Roper Organization in 1991 (Bigelow Holding Corporation, 1992): 1. A person wakes up paralyzed, with the sense that there is a strange person or presence or something else in the room-once or twice (13%), more than twice (5%). 2. A person is apparently lost for 1 hr or more but, later, cannot remember why this happened or where he or she was-10%, 4%. 3. A person feels that he or she is actually flying through the air but does not know how or why- 7%,3%. 4. A person sees unusual lights or balls of light in a room but does not know what causes them or whence they came-6%, 2%. 5. A person finds puzzling scars on his or her body, but neither the person nor anyone else remembers how or where the person received the scars-6%, 2%. A total of 2% of those surveyed endorsed at least four of these experiences-a cutpoint Jacobs (1992) believed indicates that the person is likely to have been abducted by UFOs. In fact, most people who have such experiences probably shrug them off and attribute them to some minor sleep disorder-which is almost certainly what they are (Baker, 1992).

Alternative Explanation Clancy (2005) the believe in abduction results from a combination of sleep paralysis and its accompanying “night terror” and culturally available explanations pointing to alien abductions. It is a gradual process, once in place there is no way to prove to them that aliens don’t exist. Misuse of hypnosis to assist in recovering blocked memories (also contributed to Satanic ritual abuse panic)

Alternative Explanation (continued) In almost every case, the tool of choice is hypnosis. Newman and Baumeister cite a study by Bullard (1989) in which 71% of 104 "high-quality" abduction stories were produced under hypnosis. All of the cases discussed by Mack (1994) and Fiore (1989) were produced under hypnosis. Yet, decades of research on hypnotically induced memory reveal that hypnosis does not result in increased memory accuracy but merely increased output. Hypnotically induced testimony has been ruled inadmissible in most courts, because it greatly increases the witness's vulnerability to suggestion and because it is based on a false theory of memory. The Council on Scientific Affairs of the American Medical Association (1985), the International Society of Hypnosis (1979), and the Society for Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis (1979) have published strong warnings concerning the use of hypnosis as a tool in memory retrieval.
