Presentation transcript:

The Tutorial System How are tutorials organised? A. You will have a number of individual tutorials with your personal tutor, as well as tutorials where you meet as a group

The Tutorial System What is Tutorial Support? It is support that is provided by us, over and above your course syllabus/requirements, to provide you with guidance on areas such as: personal development career development study skills, etc

The Tutorial System Are tutorial sessions compulsory? A. Yes, you must attend all of your tutorial sessions

The Tutorial System What support am I entitled to? You are entitled to a minimum of 4 individual sessions a year, the first one of which will be within the first 6 weeks. You are also entitled to a minimum of 6 group tutorial sessions per year The support we offer is CONFIDENTIAL and an opportunity for you to discuss any issues that may be of concern to you. It is your individual time

Why attend group tutorials? To help you make decisions about your next steps Help you research your career ideas Make sure you are aware of all options available to your at the end of your course Be able to identify your skills and qualities and understand why they are important Learn how to apply for opportunities, such as jobs or higher education Be able to produce a CV or develop interview skills Understand issues that affect you and others within the wider community

Why attend individual tutorials To help you: Establish contact between you and your tutor Check you are on the right course Manage your own learning Set achievable targets and monitor progress Discuss any barriers which might stop you achieving your goals Recognise the things you have done well Explore your next steps in higher education or employment Put you in touch with student services or other college support services

Target Setting During your individual tutorials, we like to help you set SMART targets for yourself. Your individual targets should be: Specific – to help you decide exactly what you want to do/achieve Measurable – so that you will know if/how your target has been met Achievable – to that they are reasonably challenging, but not too difficult Realistic – so that you have what you need to meet your target. This means your resources and opportunities will need to be identified Time-bound – whereby a date should always set on when you need to achieve your target by. It should include interim and final deadlines

What can you expect from your Tutorial System We will Treat you as an individual Meet with your regularly in your tutor group See you individually a minimum of 4 times a year See you within a group tutorial setting 6 times a year Refer you to other support services within your college if required. Provide appropriate support to help you achieve your learning goals. You must Attend all tutorials Use your tutor to support you by being open and honest about any difficulties that you are experiencing Request additional individual tutorials if you have concerns or issues that you wish to discuss in private
