What new technology made exploration possible? 3. How did this new technology make exploration possible? After 5 minutes, you will turn and talk to discuss answers

Objective- SWBAT identify the goals of early Spanish explorers.

When Spanish explorers reached the Americas, they told tales of gold, silver, and kingdoms wealthy beyond belief. Infer if you think this would draw more explorers to the America’s? Why or why not? (Turn and talk)

Spanish explorers in the Americas conquered people and searched for gold. Spain became richer, while many Native Americans suffered from harsh treatment at the hands of the Spaniards. Two wealthy empires, The Aztec in what is now Mexico and Central America and the Inca in South America, were among the richest prizes the conquistadors claimed. Hernan Cortes conquered the Aztec Empire in 1521 and gained access to huge amount of gold for himself and Spain. What might this result in? (Turn and talk)

Group Work Each group will either be designated to be the Aztecs/Incas or the Conquistadors. You will be asked to work as a group to write a journal entry from that specific point of view. Each group member must contribute at least one sentence to the journal entry
