INTRODUCTION A valve is a device used either to control the flow rate or to stop the flow rate or to stop the flow of a fluid through pipelines and to and from process equipments. Various types of valve are used in chemical industry.

Types Of Valves 1> Gate Valve 2> globe Valve 3> ball Valve 4> plug Valve 5> diaphgram Valve 6> needle Valve 7> butterfly Valve 8> check /Non Return Valve 9> control Valve

> Gate valve :- gate valveare are commonly use as to minimize the pressure drop in the open position stop the flow rather than controlling it.

> Globe valve :- Globe valves are used to control the flow of fluid but pressure drop through this valve is much greater than that through gate valves.

> Ball valve :-For temperature below 250° C 3> Ball valve :-For temperature below 250° C.in a ball valve the sealing element is spherical, and the problems of alignment and “freezing” of the element are less than with a plug cock.ball valves find occasional application in flow control.

>Plug valve :- Plug valve are useful in chemical procrss lines 4>Plug valve :- Plug valve are useful in chemical procrss lines. As in a laboratory stopcock ,a quarter turn of the stem takes the valve from fully open to fully closed and fully open the channel through the plug may be as large as the inside of the pipe itself, and the pressure drop is minimum.

>Diaphragm valve :- Diaphgram valve are used for fluids such as viscous liquids, slurries or corrosive liquids.they make use of a flexible diaphgram usually of rubber.

> Needle valve :- A needle valve is a modification of the globe valve and generally used for an accurate control the flow.

>Butterfly valve :- A butterfly valve is used in alarge size pipeline and operate on the same principle as damper in a stove pipe.

> Check valve :- A check valve permits flow in one direction only 8> Check valve :- A check valve permits flow in one direction only. It is opened by the pressure of the fluid in the desired direction ;when the flow stops or tends to reverse ,the valve automatically closes by gravity or by a spring pressing against the disk.

> Control valve :- Control valves are used in modern chemical processes for controlling the flow automatically.these valves are operated either electrically or pneumatically.
