What is a Treaty? An between two or more countries that deals with , , trade or other international relations. agreement peace alliance

Jay’s Treaty Go to the website in your handout and answer the questions: Who was John Jay? What 2 countries were involved in the treaty? What were the 3 main parts of the treaty? Why was the treaty so important? Why were people upset about the treaty?

Pinckney Treaty (Spain)

Who lived in these new lands? Negotiated with the Cherokee, Creek, and Choctaw without leading to war, but The Creek were hostile toward settlers in Georgia, who were encroaching on their tribal lands. American military fought against the Miami Confederacy (an alliance of eight tribes) twice and failed. The 3rd time called the Battle of Fallen Timbers defeated the Natives, and they gave up their land.

Washington’s Farewell Address Excerpt It is our true policy to steer clear of permanent alliances with any portion of the foreign world…we are now at liberty to do it... What foreign policy does Washington believe in? John Adams is now President, what should he do? Isolationism Why should the US not get involved in world affairs right now?
