General remarks about the HESR and PANDA vacuum system 04. February 2013 Dieter Prasuhn

Vacuum System for the HESR @ FAIR Design parameters Total average pressure better than 1 x 10-9 mbar at room temperature. 22 sections (incl. 2 for E-Cooler, 1 for PANDA) Section length range between 6 m and 45 m, max. volume of 280 l. All vacuum chambers made from AISI 316 LN stainless steel with low hydrogen content and low permeability. On advice of the MAC 2010: NEG pumping system and baking is planned.

Vacuum sections in the HESR 15/16 E-COOLER (33/-) 18 Dipol23 (23/144) 17 Quad (40/249) 14 Quad (34/210) 13 Kicker (9/-) 12 Dipol22 (20/127) Boundary of E-Cooler hall 19 Dipol24 (45/280) 11 Dipol15 (45/280) 20 Dipol31 (41/254) Vacuum chamber diameter: 89 mm around the ring, Exception: PANDA section 10 Dipol09 (41/254) (100/150) vacuum section valve length[m]/volume[l] 21 Dipol37 (45/280) ( . / .) 09 Dipol02 (45/280) 22 Dipol44 (26/161) 07 Septum (17+6/140) 08 Dipol01 (27/166) 01 SEPTUM (21+6/170) 02 RF (7/-) Boundary of PANDA hall 05 Quad (19/116) 06 PickUP (6/-) HR09MH02 03 ANTISOL (22/138) 04 PANDA (15/92)

Further Requirements The HESR vacuum chamber is designed smooth with an inner diameter of 89 mm all around the ring All feedthroughs and pumping stations are equipped with RF grids

Some Questions by Herbert Orth: Types of flanges and sealings in the HESR: CF flanges, all metal sealed RF requirements: RF grids in the pumping crosses Transitions with an angle less than 35° Valves with RF bridges High quality weldings do not disturb the RF
