Philosophy of Education 4.3 Teaching Academy Liberty High

Developmental Goal Your own philosophy of education is very important because it provides focus and emphasis for your teaching. Working to communicate your philosophy helps you to become aware of your own goals and values, which prepares you to integrate them with the goals and values directed by your school district and your community.

Procedure (Instructional Content) As students think about your beliefs and use these to develop your philosophy. Questions for discussion: What is the purpose of education in the United States? What do you want your future students to be able to do or be, as a result of their experiences in your school? Why?

Additional ??? What kinds of teaching approaches and strategies will most likely help your students meet these goals? What is the students role (what are the student’s responsibilities)? What is the teacher’s role in the classroom? What is the teacher’s role is working with parents and as a bridge to the community? (What are your expectations for teachers?) What is the teacher’s role in educational reform?

Assignment Imagine you are starting a brand new school. You want to hire educators whose philosophies either reflect your own or are compatible with yours. What characteristics will those teachers have? Reflect on “Mr. Holland Opus”.. Think about his character and the character that Erin had in “Freedom Writers.”

Assessment Students will identify their own belief system concerning education. Students will express their philosophy of education by writing a poem, developing a collage, writing an essay, or creating a brochure. Due 11/18/2016
