CLTD Update What You Need to Know May, 2017 This is Bob Collins, APICS’ Senior Director of Professional Development. I’m excited to be talking to our partners, volunteers and instructors today about our new certification program, the APICS Certified in Logistics, Transportation and Distribution (CLTD). This webinar was designed for our partners, volunteers and instructors, NOT for the general public. This webinar includes Partner pricing information that you really don’t want to share with your customers. Bob Collins, CFPIM, CIRM, CSCP Senior Director, Professional Development

What we’ll cover today: APICS CLTD (Certified in Logistics, Transportation and Distribution) Certification overview Progress to date CLTD Exam 2017 CLTD Learning System I know many of you have been patiently, and not-so-patiently, waiting for more information about this new APICS Certification, and this presentation will cover some of the essential information that you’ve been waiting for. As I mentioned, the presentation you are watching now is designed for our Channel Partners, volunteers and IDP instructors, NOT for the general public. We will be creating a CLTD information presentation soon for the general public and your customers. Stay tuned for that .

Which Certification Is Right For You? Followed by individual CLTD, CSCP and CPIM webinars (also recorded) Huge audiences! A lot of interest.

APICS CLTD Certification Program Development Program Goals and Purpose Advance APICS mission; foster advancement of the profession Extend APICS value in additional domains of the supply chain Create additional APICS-AST&L merger value Serve existing members, attract new members Elevate awareness, professionalism, and knowledge/skills of Logistics, Transportation & Distribution practitioners Serve as voice of the Logistics profession Meet the market needs for a larger audience of Logistics practitioners and their employers Set the global standard for Logistics best practices APICS Vision Statement APICS—the world’s leading community for end-to-end supply chain excellence. APICS Mission Fostering the advancement of end-to- end supply chain management through a body of knowledge, innovative research, systems, and methods to create value for customers, members, and organizations Why CLTD? First and foremost, this new certification helps to advance APICS’ mission: to foster the advancement of end-to-end supply chain management. The merger with the American Society of Transportation and Logistics, or AST&L, gave us the “raw materials,” if you will, to expand into the Logistics area of the supply chain. The CLTD replaces the AST&L Certified in Transportation and Logistics, or CTL and helps us better serve our current members and attract new members. Finally, just as we did with CPIM and Operations Management and CSCP and Supply Chain Management, we want to elevate the awareness, professionalism, knowledge and skills of Logistics, Transportation and Distribution practitioners.

CLTD Certification Market Map Strategic Directors – leading and creating logistics body of knowledge, best practices, technology, standards Required Level of: Knowledge Skill Education Experience Increasing Level of: Value to Organization Job Complexity Job Level + Responsibility Tactical Managers – deploying and using logistics body of knowledge, best practices, technology, standards Certified CLTD Target Market Operational Support staff– following logistics body of knowledge, best practices, technology, standards So, who is our market for the CLTD? When we look at Logistics, Transportation and Distribution positions, the Operational, or Support Staff supports the Tactical, or Managerial, level, which, in turn, supports the strategic, or Director and above, level. As you move up from Operational to Strategic each group gets smaller, the amount of knowledge, skill, education and experience increases, as does the individual’s value to their organization, job complexity and responsibility. Like CPIM and CSCP, the new CLTD is designed to target the Manager level of Logistics, Transportation and Distribution professionals. Certainly we expect to see candidates from the Operational and Strategic levels, but the target market is Managers. Market Size

CLTD Market Map Employer Types 3PLs and logistics services Asset based, non-asset based Manufacturing firms Direct or indirect Retailers Government/military Mega-construction Energy production/supply Large distributors Importers/exporters Service industry providers Consulting firms Industry Sectors Automotive Commodities & industrial Defense & government Food & beverage Healthcare Energy, oil, & gas Pharmaceuticals & chemicals Retail Technology Humanitarian aid Transportation/Distribution Subdomains Air cargo Contract logistics Freight forwarding Intermodal IT solutions Road freight Ocean freight Warehousing Key Geographic Areas North America Europe Africa Middle East Japan & Korea SE Asia & Australia Brazil/CESA China/Hong Kong Our initial analysis of the LTD market place revealed a huge, underserved market, a market bigger than the CSPC market. This Market Map is just the tip of the iceberg of the Employer types, industry sectors, the various subdomains within logistics, key geographic areas and job titles that are targeted by this new certification. This certification is not for UPS or Fed Ex (although, some of their managers would benefit from it), rather it is designed for LTD professionals in corporations. When you are ready to market CLTD classes, you will want to start by going to your existing company clients and ask who heads up Logistics, Transportation or Distribution in their company. Job Titles Logistics manager/engineer Logistician/analyst Logistics planner/specialist Distribution manager Global sourcing, import/export Inventory and logistics Supply chain logistics Traffic manager/analyst Transportation/fleet mgr Vendor managed inventory Warehouse operations mgr Warehousing distribution Reverse logistics

Take Advantage of Your Existing Network Ask you current member companies: “Who is in charge of your logistics, distribution and transportation functions? Can you give me an introduction?” Who in the company is an APICS evangelist? Can they go with you to meet your new connection? Watch for upcoming webinar on selling CLTD

Body of Knowledge Development Overall Approach Market Needs Assessment (Market Research, Demographic Analysis, Interviews of Key Stakeholders) BOK Research Reviewed Core References Reviewed Job Listings to Identify Core Competencies, KSAs Reviewed APICS Distribution and Logistics Managers Competency Model for alignment Logical Job Analysis Selected World-Class SME Team Completed BOK Outline Development Validated and Finalized Core Reference List BOK Weighting and Exam Specification Like all APICS “high stakes” certifications, we used certification industry standards in developing the body of knowledge for the CLTD. We started with a market needs assessment, followed by a body of knowledge research. We pulled together a world-class team of over 20 high-level Logistics, Transportation and Distribution professionals from around the globe to finalize the body of knowledge outline with the help of a psychometrician, including diagnostic weights, and to validate the finalized core reference list,

Exam Specification Eight content areas have been identified, with the following relative weighting: Diagnostic part Main topic Percentage of exam I Logistics and Supply Chain Overview 8% II Capacity Planning and Demand Management III Order Management 10% IV Inventory and Warehouse Management 17% V Transportation 22% VI Global Logistics Considerations VII Logistics Network Design VIII Reverse Logistics and Sustainability Here are the eight diagnostic areas, with their percentages. You can get more information in the Exam Content Manual, or ECM, which will be available on Shop APICS by April 6, 2016. A free Preview of the ECM will also be posted about the same time. The ECM will be available free to purchasers of the CLTD Learning System, but some people will want to review it before the Learning System is available and purchase it now. Exam Content Manual (ECM) Available: April 6

CLTD Eligibility Requirements Apply to take the APICS CLTD exam To earn your APICS CLTD designation, you must pass one comprehensive exam. Prior to taking the exam, you must be eligible. Eligibility applications must be received two weeks prior to the day you register for the exams. To be eligible for the APICS CLTD designation, you must have: 3 years of related business experience or Bachelor’s degree or the international equivalent*, or CTL, CSCP, CPIM, CFPIM, CIRM, SCOR-P, C.P.M., CSM or CPSM designations *APICS defines the international equivalent of a Bachelor’s degree as the level of study that would qualify an individual for a graduate program in the country where the undergraduate degree was earned. There are eligibility requirements for the new CLTD Certification. They match the eligibility requirements for CSCP: 3 years of related business experience OR Bachelor’s degree or international equivalent Or one of the listed certification designations.

APICS CLTD Learning System Edition 2017, Version 1.0 Student Materials Reading Materials 8 modules covering key domains Approximately 850 pages Available in print and e-reader formats Web-based reinforcing tools The CLTD Learning System will be available by July 1, 2016. We hired Holmes Corp to develop the Learning System and it will look and feel a lot like the CSCP Learning System with both print and online material available. Notice that it will be the 2017 edition. Since we’re releasing the Learning System mid-year, we will not update CLTD until November or December, 2017.

APICS CLTD Exam Computer-based testing globally with Pearson VUE 150 multiple-choice questions (20 pre-test questions) Candidates have 3.5 hours to complete Scaled score range 200-350, minimum passing score is 300 The CLTD will be a single exam and will be offered on demand (that is, there will be no exam windows) by Pearson VUE, starting October 1. This gives you and your instructors three months to prepare before you can take the exam. The exam will contain 150 questions – 20 of them pre-test, or non-scored questions. Candidates will have 3 ½ hours to complete the exam and we’ll use Scaled Scoring like we do for other APICS Certification exams. However, anyone who takes the exam between October 1 and January 1 will not get an immediate score. Because the entire exam is new, we will need at least 200 (non-instructors) to take the exam before we can run a Cut Score event and determine the passing raw score. Anyone taking the exam during this period should have their scores and pass/fail information by January 1, 2017. After that date, all exams will be scored immediately when the candidate finishes the exam.

APICS CLTD Learning System Edition 2017, Version 1.0 Instructor Materials Classroom PowerPoint slides Instructor Resource Book Optional final exam (paper-pencil) The CLTD Instructor materials will be available about Nov 1, 2016, with the usual materials included. Until that time we will encourage both self-study and study groups. If you want to prepare for the exam, we recommend putting together a study group of other instructors and volunteers. If you have a company who wants to get started right away with CLTD, we recommend helping them set up a study group as well. We’ll have more information about facilitating a successful study group when we publish the Learning System.
