ADVERBS

What are they and what do they do? An adverb is a word used to modify a verb, an adjective, or another adverb. An adverb tells how, when, where, why, how often, and how much

The 3 forms (similar to adjectives) Positive adverbs describe something -well, badly, fast, loudly, dramatically

The 3 forms (similar to adjectives) Comparative adverbs compares two things -better, worse, faster, more loudly, less dramatically

The 3 forms (similar to adjectives) Superlative adverbs compare three or more things -best, worst, fastest, most loudly, least dramatically

The 4 types Adverbs of time- tell when, how often, and how long -tomorrow, often, never Adverbs of place- tell where, to where, or from where -there, backward, outside

The 4 types Adverbs of manner- often end in –ly and tell how something is done -unkindly, gently, well Adverbs of degree- tell how much or how little -scarcely, entirely, generally

Some things to keep in mind Adverbs often end in ly, but not always Words like very, quite, and always modify other adverbs or adjectives Not all words the end in ly are adverbs ( i.e. lovely)
