Introducing the Strengths Class 5

What is Positive Education? Positive Education involves a philosophy of being positive about the strengths and things that we are good at. Rather then focusing on the things that go wrong with us we focus on and celebrate the things that we do successfully.

What are strengths? Strengths are essentially characteristics that people have that they are good at. Everyone is made up of a unique blend of 24 character strengths. If we focus and build on the strengths that we have it has a lasting effect on our happiness and wellbeing.

What is a strengths model? A strengths based model is about identifying individual strengths as well as the strengths of others. The key to human relationships is appreciating the character strengths of others.

What are the CHS strengths? There are 7 strengths in particular that can influence academic achievement, success and happiness regardless of personal circumstances Can you name them?

Strengths at Campbell House Forgiveness – Letting things go E.g How students and staff start each day with a clean slate. Leadership – Help others and set a good example E.g. Executive team. Students leading by example checking in on someone. Social Intelligence – Be friendly. Be aware of the feelings of others E.g. Displaying common sense. Perseverance – Don’t give up. Finishing what is started. Eg. Encouraging others. Working through difficult work.

Self Regulation – Manage your actions and feelings. E Self Regulation – Manage your actions and feelings. E.g Displaying self control Gratitude – Thankful for the things that we have. Expressing thanks. E.g Manners, politeness Perspective – Taking in the bigger picture. Offering good advice. E.g. Providing a point of view or differing opinion.
