TRAVELING Rule 4.43 KNOW THIS: You must become an expert at knowing which foot is the pivot foot Once the pivot foot is determined – know what movements are in “excess of the prescribed limits” What movements ARE LEGAL and what movements ARE NOT LEGAL?

TRAVELING Rule 4.43 THE PIVOT FOOT A player may gain control of the ball with both feet on the floor A player may gain control of the ball with one foot on the floor A player may gain control of the ball with no feet on the floor

TRAVELING Rule 4.43 BOTH FEET ON THE FLOOR Either foot may be the pivot foot. One foot is lifted – the other is the pivot ONE FOOT ON THE FLOOR The foot on the floor is the pivot NO FEET ON THE FLOOR Player in the air The first to touch is the pivot If both feet land at the same time – either foot may be pivot. (Lifting one creates the pivot) A player may land on one foot and jump off that same foot and land on both feet simultaneously (jump stop) NEITHER foot can be a pivot

TRAVELING Rule 4.43 ONCE PIVOT IS ESTABLISHED The pivot foot may be lifted, but not returned to the floor, before the ball is released on a PASS or TRY. The pivot foot may not be lifted before the ball is released to start a Dribble

Rule 4.44.3a&b 3a The pivot foot may be lifted, but not returned to the floor before the ball is released on a pass or try. 3b If a player jumps, neither foot may return to the floor before the ball is released on a pass or try.

TRAVELING Rule 4.43 A PLAYER HOLDING THE BALL A player may not touch the floor with any part of the body, except the hands or feet If a player gains control while already touching the floor with more than his hands or feet – he may not attempt to get up or stand Lying on stomach – cannot roll over. TRAVELING Rule 4.43 A PLAYER DIVING FOR THE BALL ON THE FLOOR A player who dives for the ball and slides on the floor may cover a lot of floor space. This is legal – as long as it is the INVOLUNTARY MOMENTUM that is moving the player along the floor
