Foundations 1

Foundations 1 Who is God? Don’t all religions just call God by different names? A lot of religions claim their way is the only way A lot of religions contradict each other God is defined by the world’s religions in 1 of 2 ways Polytheistic-Hinduism, Buddhism, New Age religions Monotheistic-Christianity, Judaism & Islam Does it make a difference what you or a nation believes about God? Would you describe God as personal or impersonal?

Foundations 1 Who is God? Christianity believes in one God but that He exists as three separate persons (Father, Son & Holy Spirit) All three are God, but they are one God This is not 1+1+1=1 but 1X1X1=1 Deuteronomy 6:4, the ‘Shema’-the Lord our God is one! Yachid-the Hebrew word for one as in only one Echod-the Hebrew word for one as in a unity In Deuteronomy 6:4, the Hebrew word for one is ‘Echod’, not ‘Yachid’

Foundations 1 Who is God? The Bible says there is one God…Isa 44:4-8…45:5,6,18,21…46:9 The Bible says that the Father is God…Titus 1:4…Philippians 1:2 The Bible says that Jesus is God…we’ll see this in mtg#3&4 The Bible says that the Holy Spirit is God…Acts 5:3,4 The Holy Spirit is a person, not an impersonal force like electricity or the ‘Force’ in Star Wars… See the handout for His personal characteristics Do you know that God has a name?...Ex 3:14…’I AM’, in Hebrew it’s YHWH…pronounced Yahweh
