“Father, into your hands Sayings From The Cross “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit” These words are a quotation of Psalm 31:5. Jesus is expressing His willingness to submit to His Father’s will while expressing His confidence that God will deliver Him from the enemy of death - RESURRECTION! Jesus entrusts Himself to God in the face of imminent death, the ultimate enemy and the weapon of the greatest enemy of mankind, Satan. A psalm of lament from David as he prayed for deliverance from his enemies, expressing confidence that his fate was in God’s hands, ending with praise for a deliverance he was confident would happen.

Sayings From The Cross The Significance Of These Words “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit” The Significance Of These Words Jesus recognized His death had great meaning: It fulfilled God’s purpose for the salvation of man. It was the beginning of a new age, new creation.

Sayings From The Cross The Significance Of These Words “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit” The Significance Of These Words He was willing to go to the cross voluntarily, and sacrifice His life so that these purposes could be fulfilled.

Sayings From The Cross The Significance Of These Words “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit” The Significance Of These Words His Father will rescue Him from His enemies, expressing His confidence that He would be raised from the dead.

“Father, into your hands Sayings From The Cross “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit” 1. Jesus’ death was voluntary. 2. Because His death was voluntary, He was confident He would defeat death.

✓ His death upon the cross involved SPIRITUAL death. ✓ His death upon the cross involved PHYSICAL death.

“Father, into your hands Sayings From The Cross “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit” 3. Because Jesus voluntarily died, defeating death, there is now a new creation that all can be a part of that is no longer subject to death, but shares in the life of God.

“Father, into your hands Sayings From The Cross “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit” 4. Because we are a part of the new creation, we need to think in these terms and act in these terms.
