Winter Break Winter Break Important Dates: Spelling List 14 Week 16 Strive Info Night Week of: We have two suffixes –s and –es, which mean “more than one”. It can be hard to remember all the letters and letter combinations use suffix –es. Actually, it is very simple. If you hear (iz) at the end of a base word meaning more than one, it is spelled –es. When suffix –s is used, you will only hear (s) or (z). 1. rushes 2. boxes 3. classes 4. inches 5. plants 6. farmers  Suffix –ed means “happened in the past. This suffix has three distinct sounds: (id), (d), and (t). In a base word ending with a “t” or a “d”, suffix –ed sounds like (id). 7. wanted 8. landed 9. lifted  After an unvoiced sound other than “t”, suffix –ed makes the sound (t). 10. crashed 11. *stopped 12. mixed After a voiced sound other than “d”, suffix –ed makes the sound (d). 13. *dragged 14. *planned Farmed * Be sure to use the doubling rule!
