It can be hard to remember all the letters and letter combinations use suffix –es. Actually, it is very simple. If you hear (iz) at the end of a base word meaning more than one, it is spelled –es. When suffix –s is used, you will only hear (s) or (z). 1. rushes 2. boxes 3. classes 4. inches 5. plants 6. farmers  Suffix –ed means “happened in the past. This suffix has three distinct sounds: (id), (d), and (t).
