Standard of Excellence in Air Navigation Services – Safety

CANSO Standard of Excellence in SMS SEANS-Safety will assess and validate the SMS maturity levels of CANSO Member air navigation service providers (ANSPs) Based on CANSO SoE in SMS, it is aligned to ICAO International Standards and Recommended Practices Annex 19, Safety Management

Enhancing Safety Together Through SEANS-Safety, CANSO Members will be in a better position to standardise the elements of their SMSs – thus facilitating enhanced data analysis, safety risk management and performance measurement, resulting in higher overall levels of safety performance If joining CANSO is like joining a gym, SEANS-Safety is your SMS Boot Camp

How does it work? The team will travel to your ANSP to conduct a week long review of your SMS, assisted by an onsite safety expert from your ANSP The team will review your CANSO SMS Maturity Survey results with the assistance of your onsite safety expert (who can also translate if needed) The team will NOT conduct an audit They will not check documentation, but respondents must be able to point to some internal document, procedure, law or any other hard evidence to explain how an answer is justified

Regional Support for SEANS-Safety CANSO is asking Regional Directors and Regional Safety Work Groups to assist by helping to facilitate regional training of a regional SEANS-Safety assessor pool The goal is to build a pool of SMS safety experts in every region, who can then assist with the SEANS-Safety prorgamme Training will be available starting in 2017

SEANS-Safety SEANS-Safety has been approved by the CANSO ExCom for initial trials, with the first being conducted this July at IDAC SEANS-Safety will allow CANSO to set the industry standard for ANSP safety management Benefits include: Consistent data collection and analysis Comprehensive, independent SMS assessments
