A WebQuest about the History of the Internet! Where did THAT come from? Created by: Ms. Lingo for Multimedia Design I A WebQuest about the History of the Internet! Intro Task Process Evaluation Resources Conclusion

Introduction Intro Task Process Evaluation Resources Conclusion Did you know that the Internet has been around since the 1950’s? Why then have we only had access to it for about a decade? Learn the answers to these questions and many more while you do a little research using that exact tool—the Internet! How ironic: learning about the internet, using the internet. To help you succeed in this class and have you gain knowledgeable information, I’m sending you and a partner on a journey down the Information Superhighway to discover how the Internet came to be what it is today. As you follow the tasks outlined on the next slide, you will be well on your way to being a knowledgeable, tech-savvy student! Intro Task Process Evaluation Resources Conclusion

Task Intro Task Process Evaluation Resources Conclusion You and your partner will need to work together to complete the following projects: Research the history of the Internet Make a timeline, using poster board, to outline the details of historical events that have occurred from the creation of the Internet until what it is today and include colored pictures and details. Design and present a PowerPoint presentation to explain the timeline. Complete a worksheet (get from teacher). Intro Task Process Evaluation Resources Conclusion

Process Intro Task Process Evaluation Resources Conclusion I will assign classmates to work with each other. Together you will use the given websites to research the information needed to create a timeline of historical events. Use researched timeline information to create a PowerPoint slideshow that will outline the timeline. Present slideshow to the class. Complete the handout (get from teacher). Intro Task Process Evaluation Resources Conclusion

Evaluation Intro Task Process Evaluation Resources Conclusion You and your partner will both be graded on the following: Timeline Completion Slideshow information Working relationship with partner Worksheet (each question is worth 1 pt.) **#’s 1-3 will be combined on one rubric sheet** Intro Task Process Evaluation Resources Conclusion

Resources Intro Task Process Evaluation Resources Conclusion Use the following resources to aid you in your search. Internet Society Federal Communications Commission Your HTML Source NetValley Google Intro Task Process Evaluation Resources Conclusion

Conclusion You're done! Intro Task Process Evaluation Resources Now that you have cruised the Information Superhighway, you should have plenty of historical information stored. Make sure that you have all of the required information before you hand everything in to your teacher. You're done! Click here when done. Intro Task Process Evaluation Resources Conclusion

Historical Events Intro Task Process Evaluation Resources Conclusion Use poster board to design your timeline. Print color pictures of major events (or pictures representing them) and type information about the event. Cut them out and glue them to the poster board. You must include information on the following: Telegraph/Cable ARPANET USENET TCP/IP Gopher E-mail NSF WWW **These are not necessarily in the correct order. The government uses many acronyms (initial letters of other words). Find their meanings** This is not a complete list of what should be included, but you must have these items along with other information that you find. Intro Task Process Evaluation Resources Conclusion

Slideshow Intro Task Process Evaluation Resources Conclusion You should have an introductory slide, slides that outline each important year of the history, and an end slide. (Each slide should have a different “important” date on it.) You will be presenting this to the class when you’re finished. Use the pictures from the timeline on the slides. Make sure you add everything that you’ve learned so far including slide transitions, custom animation, hyperlinks, etc. Intro Task Process Evaluation Resources Conclusion

Rubric Intro Task Process Evaluation Resources Conclusion Please see the rubric that is posted on the board. Intro Task Process Evaluation Resources Conclusion
