Time Management Does it often seem that there aren’t enough hours in the day? Are you rushing around the night before a deadline to start a project?! Learn how to manage your time… ON HANDOUT: Why is time important? Time is predictable – 8 hours is 8 hours Time does not discriminate – we all have the same 24 hours in a day “I never have enough time” – not true! It’s all on how you…. Manage your time – time will go on without you…. Make the best use of your time possible! Time Wasters Check off each of the time wasters that apply to you Discuss which ones are common…. And why!

Secrets to Time Management Setting Goals Prioritizing Scheduling Rewarding These are the four secrets to success! (Each will be discussed further on the following slides.)

Setting Goals What do you want to accomplish? Academic Career-oriented Set at least one major objective daily Be realistic Make a to-do list ON HANDOUT: Setting Goals What do you want to accomplish? At school As a career Other personal goals Make a to-do list of EVERYTHING you need to do Trivial and important Short term and long term

Prioritizing Analyze everything you have to do Figure out what’s really important Accomplish goals that are important first ON HANDOUT: Prioritizing everything on the to-do list into importance Priority 1 – really important, fast approaching deadlines Priority 2 – important and/or deadlines coming up Priority 3 – needs to be done, but can be pushed aside temporarily

Personal Time Make time for yourself For every unpleasant chore, reward yourself Institute a quiet hour daily Eat healthy ON HANDOUT: Rewards! How can you reward yourself for accomplishing the goals you’ve set…. Big or small? Studying well for an hour -> take a break Scoring high on a test -> night out at the movies Etc. (discuss ideas with the class)
