What are we doing as a hub? National collaborative projects Hub-initiated activities – with a focus on our local priorities: increasing the supply of specialist mathematics teachers, developing subject knowledge of mathematics teachers and increasing post-16 participation in maths.
The National Collaborative Projects Mastery pedagogy for primary mathematics 1: China-England Research and innovation project - led by Anna Raine, Disraeli School, High Wycombe
Post-16 participation – intensive project with Schools and colleges working with FMSP and CMSP - led by Julia Brown, Wycombe High School
Mastery pedagogy for primary mathematics 2: Use of high quality textbooks (linked to Singapore) To support teacher professional development and deep conceptual and procedural knowledge for pupils - led by Ruth Nicoll, Turnfurlong Infant School
Our Hub projects include Initial Teacher Training - working with potential applicants to recruit and give them experience before they apply - developing a maths course for School Direct trainees to complement their generic PGCE course
Raising post-16 participation through joint projects with FMSP - ‘Taking Maths Further Day’ - Twilight sessions to support A level maths teachers - A level Core Revision days
Support and development of Maths Leaders - training for heads of department and their teams across our region - networking meetings - one day conference in June/July 2015 - twilight sessions for primary leads - twilight sessions for non-specialists who are teaching maths
Forthcoming dates and events…… 9 December – Hub can nominate up to three schools or colleges for DfE funding as ‘Early Developer’ projects for Core Maths. Details on our website page. 11 December – CPD Network Meeting for CPD providers
NCETM PD Lead Training for secondary teachers Two days, dates tbc but likely to be mid February and late May.
