SAGE Test Administrator Training 2017

Expected Testing Times: Summative Course Test Administration Most Students Should Be Finished All Students Should Be Finished Science Math All 90 minutes 135 minutes ELA Reading, Language, Listening Writing, First Prompt Opinion/Argument 60 minutes Writing, Second Prompt Informative/Explanatory

-SAGE Interim and Mid-Year Summative Test Administration Manual Test Scheduling “Though these assessments are untimed it is inappropriate for the test administrator to allow students to take excessive time to test. In rare circumstances a student may need to take longer than the expected times. These situations must be discussed with the LEA Assessment Director to ensure that students have an appropriate opportunity to complete testing.” -SAGE Interim and Mid-Year Summative Test Administration Manual

Testing Sessions LEAs to determine local testing schedules (April 3 – May 12) May 15 – 19 will be used for make up testing, if needed. All tests may be split among multiple testing sessions/class periods Students may pause/log out of the test at any time Students will NOT be able to change answers on previous day’s work (except ELA: Writing assessment) Students who finish early should bring a book to read. They should not access other websites while students are still testing. USOE will be observing schools at random to ensure test ethics are being followed and teachers are sticking to the TAMS.

Testing Materials Student Test Tickets – ensure that students know their seven-digit SSID number Allowed Materials Headphones Scratch and/or graph paper – students may not take the paper out of the testing room. Paper must be BLANK upon entering the lab. Calculators as appropriate Grades 3-5: Calculators are NOT allowed Grade 6: Calculators are allowed ONLY on the second segment of the test ** can only use the online calculator Science – Grades 4-6: basic 5-function ** cannot be a phone or internet capable calculator Reference sheets – Physics, Chemistry only

Testing in a Classroom Please submit a tentative testing schedule to your STS if you plan on testing in the classroom on chromebooks. Testing conditions should continue until the students are finished: minimize distractions room must be quiet don’t let students work on FUN things when they are finished -- students will start to hurry through the test so they can do the fun thing have a book to read -- that is really what they should be doing if they finish early they cannot go to other website during the test This information is coming directly from Rachel Reese, the new assessment specialist.

2017 ESL SAGE Flow Chart Is this the first time the student has been enrolled in a U.S. school? YES Did the student register on/before April 14, 2016 for the first time in the U.S.? YES Administer all SAGE tests (ELA, Math, Science) to student NO NO Administer all SAGE tests (ELA, Math, Science) to student Did the student register between April 15, 2016 and April 14, 2017 for the first time in the U.S.? YES Administer only Math and Science tests to student Note: There is no special code for ELL in TIDE this year. Based on the student’s information in Discovery, SAGE will generate the appropriate Summative Test based on how long they have been in the country. Did the student register on of after April 15, 2017 for the first time in the U.S.? YES Do NOT administer any SAGE tests to the student this spring

ELA: Writing (Summative) Student writing will draw on information and evidence from passages. Two Compositions (soft segments): What is a “soft” segment? Students can logout and still see their work when they log back in (within each segment). This rule only applies to the writing test. Opinion/Argument Informative/Explanatory

Not available on screen Bringing a calculator is a modification and must be marked in TIDE Based on the Utah State Standards and students in these grades need to build basic computation skills and knowledge Computation Tables such as multiplication tables or graphic organizers may not be used Any standard, that is appropriate for students to have a formula to solve an item, will have the formula embedded in the item. Standards that state: “Apply the formula”

Elementary Mathematics Grade 6: Calculator allowed on certain items. First segment: Calculator NOT allowed Second segment: Calculator available ONLY onscreen Proctor must advance students to the second segment Desmos Calculator will be available on the test – can be downloaded and used during instruction * new this year A Calculator manual is available on www.sageportal.org Computation Tables such as multiplication tables or graphic organizers may not be used. Any standard, that is appropriate for students to have a formula to solve an item, will have the formula embedded in the item. Standards that state: “Apply the formula”
