Electricians Union By Randy Work

What is it? The electrician Union is a union of electricians that bring electricity into homes, businesses, and factories so you have light and heat. Electricians usually start their work by reading blueprints Electricians generally focus on construction or maintenance

How much do they get paid? In New York they get paid $52,200 a year. In may 2006 median earnings were $20.97. In 2008, the U.S. median wage was $15.57 per hour.

Education and Training Most learn their trade through apprenticeship programs. To start work you need a G.E.D or high school diploma. If you complete the apprenticeships program you qualify to do both maintenance and construction work.

Work Environment Electricians work inside and outside at construction sites to homes. The Job includes bending conduit, lifting heavy objects, and standing, stooping, and kneeling for long periods. Electricians risk injury from electrical shock, falls, and cuts and must follow strict safety rules.

Job Demands Many electrician jobs currently on the market, and this is not surprising, are for industrial or construction work. These jobs mostly include setting wiring, housing, and attaching electrical lines for everything from office buildings to homes

FACTS The history of the union can be traced back to the making of the "Old Mechanics" of 1826 And it then grew into the Amalgamated Society of Engineers and then changed to Amalgamated Engineering Union.
