What We are Learning Birthdays A Note from Mrs. Kaplan Wish List Enter Date What We are Learning Writing: In writing we are beginning a unit on non-fiction writing. The students will learn about gathering facts and using them in their writing. We will also talk about the differences between facts and opinions. Language Arts: We are working on our guided reading strategies. This month we will focus on Tryin’ Lion (just keep trying), Helpful Kangaroo (It’s okay to ask for help), and Flippy the Dolphin (changing the vowel sound if needed). The students are working on reading fluency and retelling stories with a beginning, middle, and end; identifying character, settings, problems and solutions. Math: We are learning about 3D shapes (cone, cylinder, cube, sphere), fact families, adding and subtracting fluency up to 5, decomposing/composing numbers to 20, ordering numbers to 20, and addition and subtraction stories. Science: We are beginning to learn about the pond habitat. During this unit we will learn about frogs, toads, insects, and the season of spring. CALENDAR March 2nd-9th: Book Fair March 3rd: PTA Meeting @5:45 pm. March 3rd: PreK/K Bedtime storytelling @ 6pm. March 10th: District Art Show March 15th: Spring Pictures and Class Pictures March 17th: St. Patrick’s Day March 18th: Career Day March 24th: Report Cards Issued March 25th: Bad Weather Make-up Day March 28-April 1: Spring Break (NO school) Birthdays No Birthdays A Note from Mrs. Kaplan If you are sending book fair money in with your child please make sure it is labeled with the child’s name and “book fair”.
