To room 11 Open House September 22, 2016 Welcome To room 11 Open House September 22, 2016

About me…. ] I’ve been a teacher for 14 years ] I’ve taught all grades pre-k – 5 ] I was a high school cheerleading coach, camp instructor, choreographer, and competition judge for ages 2 through adult ] I have a daughter that also attends McVey and is in the third grade ] I am from Brooklyn, NY but have lived and traveled all around the world. I even spent my sophomore year of high school in Germany. ] My entire family is from Puerto Rico & I am bilingual. I speak Spanish fluently. ] I am technologically savvy and love incorporating it into my daily lessons.. ] I am fascinated by the brain and do a lot of research on how it works

Expectations for this year… I expect my students to: Maintain a high level of self- respect as well as a respect for others Put forth a strong effort in all they do Strive to become better people and try and improve in all areas of life Be a reliable go-between when it comes to home and school communication You can expect me to: Keep the lines of communication open between home and school Do my best to teach your children not only core subjects, but also how to be thinkers and problem solvers Reinforce the importance of respect, hard work, and other crucial life skills for success Have high expectations of your children and a plan to help them meet those expectations

I ask that parents and guardians… Keep the lines of communication open Check and sign the agenda at least once a week Check and sign the homework packet every weekend Use adult logic when hearing stories from school Come to me directly as soon as possible if there are ever any questions, comments, or concerns Be mindful of the fact that there are 25 other students in my care as well as your child Trust that I will do everything I can to keep your children safe and make sure they are well prepared for the future because I have their best interest at heart

Classroom Policies Homework Research has shown that homework has little to no impact on a child’s learning and actually tends to be added stress on parents. Packets will be checked but not graded or returned. Use the homework as a guide to see how well your child understands the math content. Snack Since we do not eat lunch until 12:15, we have a small snack around 10:15 each day. Students may bring their own small snack from home as long as it doesn’t require utensils, heat, or refrigeration. It shouldn’t take more than 5 minutes to eat Response Time Please allow at least two business days for a response to a message or request. Many times I have to ask someone else and wait for their response before getting back to you. Unfinished work Students receive ample time to complete their work each day. If they’re not finished with an assignment due to poor time management, they will be required to finish it during recess. Recess Consequences If a child has shown repeated negative behavior throughout the day, they will be required to walk laps for a certain amount of time during their recess block.

We will now have a brief question and answer period to answer any general questions you may have about our class. If you’d like to discuss your individual child, please sign up for a conference on the sheet at the front table.

Thank you for coming! I look forward to helping your children grow!
