Defining: Geography Terms Chinook: a dry, warm wind that blows down the eastern slope of a mountain Contiguous: connected to Continental Divide: imaginary line through the Rocky Mountains that separates rivers that flow east (to the Atlantic Ocean) from those that flow west (to the Pacific Ocean) Cordillera: a region of parallel mountain systems Irrigation: the process by which water is supplied to dry land Timberline: line of elevation above which trees do not grow because the air is colder
