Housing LIN update New Housing LIN briefing post Dilnot Considers the impact that the new care funding system will have on housing choices made by older people. A move to extra care housing is chosen by some older people as a way to have access to on-site support and other beneficial features while retaining their own front door. Extra care housing is distinct from residential care and while it is ‘specialist’ it is closer to ordinary housing.

Housing LIN update New Housing LIN Case Study The business case for extra care housing: an evaluation of extra care housing in East Sussex Key findings: extra care housing acts as a preventative model, supporting • independence and avoiding admissions into residential care; extra care housing is a more cost effective model of care delivery than • other models, including residential care and care in the community, and the cost of extra care housing was on average half the gross cost of the alternative placements

Housing LIN Update A selection of new Housing LIN Viewpoints: Growing older together: housing that is shaped and controlled by older people What is the future of supported housing? Food for thought: Catering in extra care housing Future perfect: designer labels for an ageing society Incentives for downsizing: oiling the wheels of the housing market system Under one roof?
