What is A Podcast?

The world today iPod & MP3 revolution The ‘barriers to entry’ for songwriters and broadcasters have changed Anyone can create and release sound to the world through the Internet

The Podcast A distribution method for radio shows Anyone can subscribe to a show Episodes are then downloaded as they are released All automatically Just need a PC and some software (like iTunes)

Podcast Sources Podcast Alley iTunes Podcast.net

The two needs Audio Consumers Audio Creators They want to find cool stuff They want to listen to it when they want, where they want Most have mobile MP3 players (ie. iPods) They don’t want anything that isn’t a simple ‘appliance’ Audio Creators They want to create Podcasts They want as many people to hear them as possible They don’t want their consumers to have to be technically savvy to hear their audio They want to be able to receive payment for their work (if they elect to release commercial sound)

The Audio Creator There are two challenges: Creating the audio Releasing & distributing the audio

Creating the audio There is a clear need for a simple, ‘appliance level’ solution The Alesis Podcasting kit addresses this Now anyone can create audio But the creator needs to get it to the public

Releasing & Distributing Ultimately its about finding an audience Audio Creators must solve these challenges: How can consumers find me? How can consumers get my audio creations?
