It’s Time to choose classes for 7th grade

Our Course Selection timeline Starting February 7th, all resource and spectrum classes will visit with me (Ms. Burnett) in the computer lab to pick your electives for 7th grade. Before you meet with me, you need to explore the electives and know which ones you plan to take. On January 23rd your teacher recommendations for Math, Science, English and Social Studies were loaded into your StudentVue in the Course Requests tab.

How does this affect me? You will not be able to make changes for core courses unless your parent talks with that particular teacher. So talk to your PARENTS about those classes, and make sure you are ok with them. For electives, you must decide what you want to take in 7th grade BEFORE you meet with me! Today you are going to learn what your choices are.

Required 7th grade courses: All 7th Graders will take: Math, Life Science, U.S. History, English, FACS, Tech Ed and H/PE All 7th Graders will have a 45 minute Resource/Spectrum class paired with a Music or Art Elective All 7th Graders will also have the choice between Communications or a Foreign Language.

Should I take a foreign language in 7th grade? Remember-If you take a Foreign Language class, it is a high school credit course and will factor into your Grade Point Average in high school. If you take this class, be prepared to work hard and take it seriously. Who should take this class? Students who are hard working, have great study habits, well organized and desire to advance in high school in a Foreign Language.

Now you get to choose your electives: Chorus 7 World Languages: Art 7 Spanish 1, Spanish for Fluent Speakers*, Guitar 7-Level 1 French 1, German 1, Latin 1 Strings 7 *If you are interested in Spanish for Fluent Band 7 Speakers, see Ms. Burnett for more info. What do you need to do now? You were able to see your teacher recommendations in StudentVue as of January 23rd. These are your course requests for your core classes. Discuss these recommendations with your parents to make sure they are the classes you want to take. Explore your elective options and be ready to choose your 2 electives by February 7th. If you have any questions after watching the videos about which electives to choose, ask the teacher of those classes or I’m always here to help.
