Steam Engine, Invented By Thomas Savery Steam engine was invented in 1698 in England England was beginning to mine coal for energy there was a problem with water in the mines The steam engine was used to pump the water out It was also called the “Miner’s Friend” Ferrell, Keith. Importance of Invention England at that time had been using wood for energy, but the wood was running out. They wanted to mine coal but water would seep into the mines. The miners had hand pumps to pump the water out The hand pumps were slow and sometimes did not work fast enough. The steam engine was faster and easier on the miners Thomas Savery had an understanding of the recent science of steam and pressure, and also had a good knowledge of mechanical systems

Importance of Invention James Watt greatly improved the steam engines efficiency. Also, James Watt and others improved the reliability of the engine. The steam engine changed society because it allowed for deeper mines as well as factories that used steam engines to power their machines. The steam engine was a major contributor to the industrial revolution If there were never a steam engine invented, we would still be in an agrarian economy Society is benefitted by all the products and medicines we have as a result of the industrial revolution Some say the steam engine was bad because it took away people’s jobs and it did cause a lot of pollution. Many factory workers suffered harsh conditions during the industrial revolution.
