Literacy Phonics Maths Notices Newsletter Reception Class 2nd December 2016 Literacy This week we have read the story of ‘The Snowman’ by Raymond Briggs. We have read this book as a whole class and we then listened to the story without the book using an audio CD version. Everyone tried very hard to concentrate on the story without the picture book. We have also been concentrating on reading Phase 2 tricky words in sentences. This week we have started our new topic which is Christmas. We have been reading the story of ‘The Snowman’ by Raymond Briggs. On Friday we enjoyed having a Snowman party in our class using the different masks and party hats we had used throughout the week. As a whole class we have also had lots of fun making and decorating a Christmas tree. We have made several different baubles! You have all worked so hard, well done! Phonics This week we been consolidating all of the Phase 2 sounds. We have also been learning to read and write simple captions. We have also been learning to read and write Phase 2 tricky words. Maths This week we have been learning the names and properties of 3D shapes including a sphere, cone, cuboid, cube and cylinder. It would be great if you could consolidate the names of these shapes at home. Next week we will be learning about numbers 15-18 and adding and subtracting numbers to 10. Notices . Please can everyone practice and consolidate all of the sounds that have been completed so far as the children will be having a small phonics assessment next Monday.
