My rock and fossil collection by Naomi Pace

I collect: Pebbles Crystal rocks Fossils Lava rocks Marble rocks

Pebbles I find pebbles on different beaches in Gozo. The pebbles are of different shapes, sizes and colours and I take home the special ones. Pebbles are smooth because when waves crash on to beaches they roll pebbles against each other and after years of rubbing, the pebbles become round and smooth.

Crystal rocks I found this crystal rock on the clay slopes of Ghar Qawqla in Marsalforn. I really liked it because it is very shiny and special. Crystals can be expensive like diamonds and rubies. Salts and sugars are also crystals that we find in our homes.

Fossils Fossils are made from the remains of animals, fish or plants that lived a very long time ago and when they died their bones or shells settled in the rocks. Fossils take millions of years to form. I find fossils in many places all-over Gozo. These photos are fossils of shells found in Dwejra.

Shark teeth Sharks have been around for a very long  time (over 200 million years!!!).   Fossil shark teeth can be found almost anywhere on earth. This shark tooth is very special because my nannu found it in his field and gave it to me.

Lava rocks Lava rocks form when volcanoes erupt very hot magma onto the surface of the earth and when it cools it becomes lava rocks. Lava rocks can have red, yellow, black and white layers in them. I collected these lava rocks from the top of Mount Etna in Sicily.

Warming my hands by digging into the lava Playing on the lava

Marble rocks I found these marble rocks at Gole Alcantara in Sicily. I picked these marble rocks when I was walking in the river.

Now you can see some things from my collection!

Thank you!
