 Is the ability to cause changes in matter.  Energy can transform, or change, from one form into another.  Energy is never used up.

3.1 Matter and Energy Kinetic Theory of Matter: – All matter is made of atoms – Atoms always in motion; hotter = faster, faster = hotter – Heavier particles.

Presentation transcript:

The ,1st 2nd ,3rd laws 1st law: An object that rest in motion stays at rest until force is applied. 2nd law: the rate change of momentum is proportional to the imposed force and goes in the direction of the force 3rd law: every action has to have an equal and opposite reaction.

Sound wave Is a wave that travels through matter and off of matter; vibration is a back and forth movement of an object.

Vacuum mechanical wave Can't go through a vacuum the only wave that can go through vacuum is electrical wave like the sun.

Energy The ability to make change. Example : toasting bread

Thermal energy Heating up an object: increasing particles movement.

Nuclear energy When the split and come together.

Potential energy Is stored energy.

Kinetic energy of an object is the energy which it possesses due to its motion.

Medium Any object that passes through air and makes waves Example like a flag blowing through the air.

Doppler effect Is the closer the wave is the louder it gets. And the farther the wave goes the quieter it gets.

Melting Point a solid is the temperature when it changes states from solid to liqid.

Freezing Point which the freezing point of a liquid is depressed when another compound is added, meaning that a solution has a lower freezing point than a pure solvent.

Evaporation Is a liquid to a gas.

Condensation Is a gas to a liquid.

sublimation Is a solid to gas example is (dry ice)

deposition Is a gas to a solid

Periodic table is a display of the 118 known chemical elements organized by selected properties of their atomic structure.

Solids, gas, liquid, These are the types of elements that are in the periodic talbe.
