2012 Technical Service Advisor’s Meeting Product Updates 2012 Technical Service Advisor’s Meeting Company Private

Condensing Unit Hail Guard Bracket Brackets for flange sent for field test Implemented 3/6/2012

Medium Rooftop Unit Hail Guard Tabs New triangular tabs in production. Brackets for flange field test implemented 3/6/2012

Central Terminal Board Problem Description: 3/8/2011, ETP reported failures on the 1183618 control boards due to “BAD SOLDER JOINTS” located between JMP5 & JMP6 jumper pads. ETP reported finding a total of 8 boards with similar defects. Production date codes of 0911. Corrective action: UTEC going to smaller pads to prevent bridging, which caused a short. New boards are in production.

SRT Coil Leaks Header/Tubesheet Problem Description: Factory Coil leaks at the tube sheet. Leaks occur at enlarged holes on the tube sheet where flame is penetrating, melting the aluminum fins and reacting with copper. Research showed increased swedge to be primary fix. Corrective Actions: 7/12/11 – ETP started using all extruded hole tube sheets on 074 condenser coil core. Leak rate improved by 75%. Switch to all extruded holes in all SRT coils. One coil requires header insertion depth modification. 5 5

Rooftop Filter Driers Description of Issue Units Affected Filter Driers becoming restricted shortly after start up Units Affected All RGS/RAS, RGH/RAH models: single circuit 7.5, 8.5 and 10 ton SRTs, Current Status Analysis of field returns shows that restrictions are caused by copper and iron debris. Design change being made to double filter capacity in affected products by replacing current 1177620 filter drier with 1179538 filter drier. New filter drier is currently used in CAS splits. Implementation dates: November 7 at CMX-B, November 17 at ETP Next Steps Team formed to identify root cause and corrective actions. Check update.

Regal Beloit Condenser Fan Motor Problem: 52Frame size condenser fan motor. Embrittlement of the screws. Screw holding bearings in place are breaking and falling out. Suspect motors from Dec 2011-March 2012 Corrective Action: Inventory tested and repaired. Changed Screw Supplier and new screw torque test implemented.

CMX-B Excess Fin Lube (Current Project) Part/Issue Description: Problem Description: Presence of excess fin lube from production process can cause perception of coil leaks, oil in drain pans and oil soaked packaging Manufacturing is currently monitoring oil application process – adjusting the fin press process fin oil lube. Corrective Actions: CMX B working to improve process of fin lube application . Best practice equipment for applying and controlling fin lube (based on other production facilities) is being investigated and procured. ICP Approved date 11/10/11 …..Done Implementation date 5/15/12 8 8

Defrost Board Problem Description: This connection is for 3-5 ton, 575V units (Canada only). The red wire was left hanging loose on other voltage size units and the field was making the connections. Need to update.

Defrost Board

Condensate Pan Extension Problem: condensation from tubing dripping onto base pan. Units affected: all units with TXV’s. Corrective action: factory to install extension for drain pan with protective edge. Extend wiring harness to prevent rubbing. In production at CMX on 4/2/2012

MRT Incorrect Accumulator Piping 4 way valve To compressor Description of Issue The “IN” and “OUT” pipes on the accumulators in these units may be reversed. Suspected Population – 113 units, 2 accumulators per unit. Models Affected MRT, RHS181-240 Serial Numbers: U101104824 to U104332001 Containment Supplier added visual aids and instituted auditing (100%) CMX-B auditing incoming assemblies Factory inventory reworked Permanent Action Redesigned changes on the accumulators. Implement ECN by supplier. 11/15/11 1175758 Need to update. CHS180 RHS181-183 Inlet Diam. 1 1/8” 1171890 CHS240 RHS240-243 12

Honeywell Economizer Control Adjustment Tool Description of Issue December 2009 Honeywell changed the HH63AW001 (w7212) and began shipping adjustment screwdrivers. Adjustment screwdrivers were not making it to plants. Service Techs using pocket screwdriver damaging potentiometers. Current Status MicroMetl shipping adjustment screwdrivers taped to control date code 35-11 (unit S/N to be determined) Fast Parts has screwdriver in stock.
