Prophesies about John the Baptist 3This is he who was spoken of through the prophet Isaiah:    "A voice of one calling in the desert,    'Prepare the way for the Lord,       make straight paths for him.' … Then the glory of the Lord will be revealed,       and all people will see it together.       The Lord has spoken!”… Shout, and do not be afraid.    Tell the towns of Judah,       “Your God is coming!”  10 Yes, the Sovereign Lord is coming in power.       He will rule with a powerful arm.       See, he brings his reward with him as he comes.  11 He will feed his flock like a shepherd.       He will carry the lambs in his arms,    holding them close to his heart.       He will gently lead the mother sheep with their young. What does this teach us about John’s mission? What does this teach us about Jesus’ mission?

The Birth of John the Baptist Fill in the blanks on the worksheet to tell the story of John’s birth. Glue in the worksheet In what ways was John’s birth like Jesus’ birth In what ways does this story differ from the Christmas story?

John The Baptist’s Mission John dressed in clothes made of camel's hair and he had a leather belt around his waist. He lived in the desert and ate locusts and wild honey.   It was John’s mission to prepare the way for the Messiah. He thought people should treat each other with kindness and could be quite rude to people he thought were not living the way God wanted them to He Believed that people should do something special to show that they wanted to change so he asked people to be ‘baptised’. John went through all the country around Jordan preaching a baptism for the forgiveness of sins. Crowds of people came telling him their sins and he baptized them in the Jordan River to show that God had forgiven them.  He told them that they must live right. They asked him what they should do. So John said that if they had two coats, they should share with a person who did not have a coat, and if they had food, they should share with those who did not. The tax collectors asked what they should do, and so John told them to be honest in their collection of taxes and to not collect more than they should. The soldiers asked what they should do, and he told them to not take money from people illegally, to always tell the truth and not falsely accuse people. They were to be content with their pay and not grumble about it. Why do you think we remember John during advent? Write a job description for John the Baptist
