6/12/2018 9:59 AM An article in our local newspaper, The Daily Post-Athenian, announced that we, our locality, has been approved to receive another $200,000 from the Recreational Trail Project to buy the remaining property to extend the trail another mile into the City of Englewood. Efforts are continuing to improve the physical build environment including the purchasing of benches from the funds provided by Marshall University and Bristol-Meyers Squibb. These four “highlights” in conjunction with our coalition’s advocacy and the efforts of numerous partners and partner agencies has earned McMinn County the recognition of being a Healthier Tennessee Community.

To earn the distinction, your community must: • Initiate and sustain at least three community-wide activities or events that encourage healthier eating. • Initiate and sustain at least one community-wide activity that encourages tobacco abstinence. • Create a way to track and measure the outputs and accomplishments of the program. • Engage local media and consistently provide them with information on events, updates and other information. • Create a local wellness council led by a chairperson(s). The wellness council should include a diverse group from the community, including representation from the Chamber of Commerce, United Way, schools, businesses, hospitals and healthcare providers, service clubs and organizations, faith communities, and others. • Engage government officials and civic leaders.
