In our effort to meet our science objectives we (the UCalgary group and partners)… Developed the CGSM ITI/HSi system, and extensive RT data capabilities Developed widely used software for control of cameras, MSPs, etc Developed the capability to design and build a variety of imagers (satellite & ground-based) Developed the “skymap” and mosaic software used for THEMIS ASI Developed the GAIA auroral VO now (Canada, Finland, UK, USA, Japan, Sweden, Norway, etc.) Developed specialized instruments (MSPs, Imagers, etc.) Now operate one of the largest network of GB instruments and stations in the world ~30 ASIs, 3 MSPs, 14 Riometers, 8 Magnetometers, 20 stations, etc….

Auroral brightness on 5 magnetic meridians during the onset Auroral brightness on 5 magnetic meridians during the onset. Note that the arc that brightens is in fact (in this case) a new feature that emerges just equatorward of the growth phase arc as discussed in Lyons et al. [2002]. Further, this is not simply a “cycle” in an FLR (based on the behavior of the arc for the 15 minutes prior to the onset – from 0450 until breakup the arc is NOT oscillating). I believe the signature of the dipolarization/PS expansion at TH D/B/A/E marks the times when the poleward moving disturbance in the aurora passes those satellites. 1 hour of MLT

What next? Proton auroral MSPs Simultaneous multi-spectral observations Full colour imagers rather than white light Better coverage (polar cap, sub-auroral)
