To recognise the grassroots’ inventiveness of the state and promote innovators in scaling up their ideas into a concrete model so as to solve social and technological problems of the society besides commercialisation.

Vision  To become a repository of agri, food and nutrition and innovation related knowledge resources and enabler in fulfilling state dream of self sufficiency and growth through knowledge/ technology dissemination and sharing.  To be a thought leader in national/ regional issues related to agri, food, nutrition and innovation and play pro-active role providing intellectual and scientific input. To be a leader in recognising innovative potential and assist them in scaling up into business enterprises.

Few facts about grassroot’s innovation Manipur has one of the largest pools of unaided innovation in the informal sector according to NIF* database. Many local problems are solved by grassroots’ innovation. Many of them are not properly documented. They work in ‘closed’ chamber. So, narrow outlook. *National Innovation Foundation

But, unfortunately THEY ARE STUCKED SOMEWHERE No/ little commercial successes Impact on their life and society is marginal

Why need to push up Personal Societal Higher income Opening up their minds Networking with experts/ investors Culture of innovative/ creative thinking Driving state economy Spin out development in many other sectors

Scenario of innovation ecosystem Innovation promotion agencies Plus points Negative points Motivated staff under able leadership Generous support to innovators Under staff, No office NIF No staff No point for interaction with innovators DST (Central) Large pool of money Innovator DST (Manipur) No dedicated staff for innovation No money No dedicated fund for innovation Lack of motivation MASTEC Well established office

Where are the common pitfalls? Poor scouting and documentation Poor integration of innovations into the established ecosystem. No mechanism to get people involved. No system to scale up or leverage innovations (entrepreneurship).
