Introduction Career counseling is a process of assisting an individual To choose a career. To prepare for it. To enter in it and To progress into it.

Cont. Career counseling is a continuous process Start from primary school, secondary, college/university and in-service

Objectives of career counseling Helping individual to acquire knowledge on career Provide knowledge and skills for future career

Common avenues From School/College/University Employment Self-employed (business, entrepreneurs)

Cont. From organizational transition/crisis Change jobs Self-employed (business, entrepreneurs).

Factors influencing career choice Interest Skills and aptitude Comparing with others School grade Parents Models Economic factor

Transition from job to job (Career change) Task change - Moving from one task to another within the same job and location Position change - Same employee but slight shift of the position, moving in another firm or company. Occupational change - Transition from one set of duties i.e. shifting totally from one set of duties to another e.g. From teacher to bank taller
