This is my 4th year at Leitch Elementary. I went to Humboldt State University, where I got a scholarship to play softball. 3 time All-American Hall of Fame I got my BA degree in Child Development at HSU. I got my Multiple Subject Teaching Credential at SJSU. I have one daughter (1 yr. old) & another on the way (November). First grade is my favorite grade to teach.

Homework will begin the week of September 18. I will be handing out a L.A. & Math packet to each of the students every Friday. Students will have one week to complete the given assignments and should be turned in on the following Friday. HW should be checked by a parent before being turned in. Spelling & Comprehension tests will be given every Friday.

First grade Leitch HW plan is: 10-30 minutes per evening (40-120 min per week) HW will be reviewed and returned in a timely manner. Students with excused absences will be allowed the same number of days as absence to complete HW.

In addition to the regular, weekly homework, optional challenge projects are posted on the first grade website. www.fremont.k12.ca.us/leitch These are projects your child can voluntarily complete. These projects are NOT required.

ELA: Treasures by Macmillan/McGraw-Hill Math: California Math Expressions Spelling: Phonics to connect sounds, symbols and patterns Writing: Genres- narrative, opinion, and descriptive. Science: California Science History: Time and Place

Report Cards Our district has a performance-based report card for first grade based on the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). We will be using letter grades. N- Needs additional support/practice S- Satisfactory progress towards standards

Explanation of Marks /- Not assessed during 1st or 2nd trimester N- Needs additional support/practice The student is working below grade level but is making some progress towards understanding the level state standards. The student needs to make more progress in order to proceed to the next grade level.

S- Satisfactory progress towards standards The student is working on grade level and making good progress. The student is considered to proceed to the next grade level. This is the ideal letter most students should have to be on grade level.

Our classroom will be using a clip chart to monitor behavior Our classroom will be using a clip chart to monitor behavior. A clip chart is a great tool that allows students to be rewarded for positive behavior, while discouraging negative behavior. Point Scale: Green= 1; Blue= 2; Purple= 3; Pink= 4

Super Student- Exceeding expectations. Great Job- Above expectations and continuing to display good behavior. Good Choices- Students are making the right behavior decisions. Ready to Learn- Every student will start the day on Ready to Learn. This is a good level to be on!

Think About it- A warning about his/her behavior, and a reminder to follow the rules. Teacher’s Choice- Students who continue to display poor behavior. The teacher can decide what action to take. Loss of recess or center time. Parent Contact- Teacher will notify parents via email or phone call. A visit to the Principal’s office might also be in order.

Start- 8:20 am *Students will be marked tardy if they are not on the blacktop in line. Morning Recess/Snack- 10:00am-10:20am Lunch- 11:00am- 11:40am Afternoon Recess/Snack- 1:25pm-1:40pm Dismissal- 2:30 pm *Wednesday early dismissal @ 1:15pm
