Background B.A. English- Literature, Towson University, Baltimore, MD (2007) M.A. Teaching- Secondary Education, Towson University, Baltimore, MD (2012) Single Subject Teaching Credential- English; Cross cultural, Language and Academic Development Certificate Education five years: one year substitute teaching (German- all levels), three years teaching ninth grade (also taught 8th, 10th, 11th, 12th, and SAT Prep)

Common Core California adopted new standards known as the Common Core State Standards. First year of full implementation. Focus on collaboration, critical thinking, creativity, and communication Can be viewed at http://www.cde.ca.gov/be/st/ss English Common Core Common Assessments LPS School Safety Plan Revision

Shifts to Common Core Rigorous curriculum, Project-based learning, collaboration, real world application

Classroom Procedures Warm Up and Word of the Day: (5 minutes) Reviews vocabulary, terms, concepts taught in class. Word of the day to develop vocabulary looking toward CAHSEE and PSAT/SAT/ACT Late/Absent Work Forms: Forms must be filled out and attached to assignment. Late work will lose points per day late; after one week assignment is graded at 50% maximum. As assignments build upon each other late assignments may affect the grade of future assignments. **YCJUSD Policy- Excused absences = 2 days to make up work**

Procedures Continued Reading Requirement: 200 pages per quarter (250 pages for Honors). Students will book quiz with me upon finishing their book. Office Hours: Tuesday and Thursday until 4pm; assignments, tests, and projects can be redone. Life Happens Pass: Entitles student to submitting major project/ paper late up to one week (one per semester). Credit Card: Students earn incentives through positive academic behaviors and good citizenship

Grading 40%- Writing 40%-Assessments 10%- Classwork 10%- Homework/Reading Requirement *YCJUSD is a “no D” district* English 9/LPS Eng 9 A=90-100% B=80-89% C=69-79% F=68% or below Hon Eng 9/Hon LPS Eng 9 C=70-79% F=70% or below

There is also a messaging center.
