Regulators, Switches, Relays & Annunciators - Agenda Activity Estimated Time 1. Agenda 5 2. Learning Objectives 3. Regulators 50 BREAK 10 4. Switches 5. Relays and Enunciator Systems 40 6. Summary and Wrap-Up 7. Additional Activities 8. Lab Activity Slide 1 Instrumentation 2 – Session 2

Objectives (page 1) Given a drawing, picture or actual device, identify and describe pressure regulators. Define the following terms associated with regulators: back pressure regulator pressure reducing regulator Given a PFD or P&ID, locate and identify pressure regulators used in process control. Given an instrument air pressure regulator, perform the following tasks: blow down regulator to check for condensate or oil set specific pressure for operating final control element Define the function of a switch. Describe three common uses for switches in process control. Slide 2 Instrumentation 2 – Session 2

Objectives (page 2) Given a drawing, picture, or actual device, identify and describe basic switch devices. Define the following terms associated with switches used in process control: autostart switch, by pass switch, on/off/auto switch, limit switch, proximity switch, vibration switch, process variable switch Given a PFD or P&ID, locate and identify switches used in process control. Explain how relays are used in the process industry. Given a ladder diagram and a legend, locate a relay. Explain the purpose of annunciator systems. Define terms associated with annunciator systems: first out, acknowledge/reset/test modes Slide 3 Instrumentation 2 – Session 2
