Man in the Middle Mediator – one who intervenes to resolve a conflict between two parties Intercessor – one who intercedes to settle the conflict Reconciler – one who tries to make peace Judge – mediator with authority Advocate – one who seeks favor on behalf of another
Man in the Middle Mediators in the Bible Abraham Moses Attempted to mediate (Gen. 18:23-33) Both parties must seek peace (Jer. 7:16; Ezek. 22:30-31) Prayer on behalf of Abimelech (Gen. 20:7) Moses Attempted – two Israelites (Exo. 2:13-14; Acts 7:26-27) At Sinai (Exo. 20:18-21; Deut. 5:5, 23-31) After the golden calf (Exo. 32:30-33) After the spies (Num. 14:19; Psa. 106:23)

Man in the Middle Why do we need a mediator? Our sins cause division between us and God (Isa. 59:2) Friendship with the world is enmity with God (James 4:4) If we love the world, we do not love God (I John 2:15-16) If we walk in darkness, we have no fellowship (I John 1:5-6) We all sin (I John 1:8; Ecc. 7:20; Rom. 3:10, 23) Sin creates conflict which we cannot resolve If the conflict remains unresolved, it will end in eternal punishment (Rev. 20:15; 21:27)
Man in the Middle Jesus, our Mediator His mediation was prophesied (Isa. 53:10-12) It cost his life (Rom. 5:6; Col. 1:19-21; Eph. 2:14-18) His sacrifice proves God’s love (Rom. 6:7-8) His death makes peace possible (Rom. 6:9-11)
Man in the Middle Jesus, our Mediator Superior to the former priests and covenant (Heb. 7:23-27; 8:6; 9:11-28; 12:24) He doesn’t need to seek peace for himself first He lives forever and can continue to intercede He saves those who draw near to God His one-time sacrifice provides the means He entered heaven to appear on our behalf
Man in the Middle Jesus, our Mediator Jesus is our advocate when we sin (I John 2:1) Jesus is the only mediator (I Tim. 2:5-6) It always depended on him (Acts 13:38-39; Rom. 8:3-4) No one comes to God except through Jesus (John 14:6) Because he intercedes, we can overcome (Rom. 8:31-39)
Man in the Middle “There is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all” (I Tim. 2:5-6) “He is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them” (Heb. 7:25) “If anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous” (I John 2:1)
