Many companies have planned to release their own players to the market sooner or later. A PMP is a hard disk or flash memory based device, which is capable of storing and playing back media of different formats. A common PMP can load and play different formats of video, audio or digital images. The functions of handheld game consoles are now greatly enhanced and they are not restricted for playing games. Nevertheless, portable media players have their downsides. These include their size, cost and battery life. The cost of most players is still high and this will certainly hinder their popularity.
