In the fall of 2017 you will be promoted to Sophomore status if you have earned 5.0 state credits.

Select courses carefully, while keeping in mind the guidelines for schedule changes. May 26, 2017, is the deadline for schedule change requests.

Your elective course requests may change due to your 9th grade EOC scores. It is important to choose alternative courses for your electives.

This plan Provides the greatest flexibility for students after graduation Offers students an opportunity to earn an industry standard certification Ensures that students have taken the courses necessary to pass the new Texas Success Initiative college entrance exams STUDENTS MUST GRADUATE ON THE DLA IN ORDER TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR AUTOMATIC ADMISSION UNDER THE TOP TEN PERCENT LAW.

What is an Endorsement? An endorsement is a focused study in an area of interest to the student, as outlined by TEA. Each endorsement requires four credits in the same subject field with at least one being advanced. There are five endorsement areas: Arts and Humanities Multidisciplinary Business and Industry Public Services Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM)

Arts and Humanities Endorsement Areas Dance Music Theater 4 credits of same fine art (Art, Dance, Music, Theater) 2 credits of one fine art + 2 credits of another fine art Language 4 credits of same foreign language (only offer 4 credits of Spanish) 2 credits of one foreign language + 2 credits of another foreign language (we offer ASL, Spanish, and French) Social Studies (5 credits)

Performance Acknowledgements: In addition to completing an endorsement, you will also have the opportunity to earn different performance acknowledgements by completing any of the following. (you can have more than one) Dual Credit Courses – at least 12 hours of college academic courses with a grade of 3.0 or higher Bilingualism – complete a minimum of 3 credits in same foreign language with 80 or higher AP – a score of 3 or above a College Board AP Exam PSAT, SAT or ACT – meet score requirement Industry Standard Certification

Weighted Courses For determining rank in class and honor graduate status, including valedictorian and salutatorian, the semester grade for each course will be multiplied by the following weighting standards: Advanced Placement Course 1.15 Pre-AP Course 1.10 Dual Credit with Pre-AP Equivalent (core) 1.10 Dual Credit with AP Equivalent (core) 1.15 Dual Credit electives no weight given The weighted grades will not be shown on the academic achievement record (transcript) or report card.

Class Rank Top Ten Percent Law If graduating in the top 10% and completing the requirements for the Distinguished Level of Achievement (DLA), you are guaranteed admission to any Texas state college or university. STUDENTS MUST GRADUATE ON THE DLA IN ORDER TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR AUTOMATIC ADMISSION. In 2009, the law was modified for The University of Texas at Austin. Under the new law, the university must automatically admit enough students to fill 75 percent of available Texas resident spaces. Each fall, the university notifies Texas school officials of the class rank that current high school juniors need to attain by the end of their junior year in order to be automatically admitted. Summer/Fall 2016 and Spring 2017 applicants: Top 8% Summer/Fall 2017 and Spring 2018 applicants: Top 7% Summer/Fall 2018 and Spring 2019 applicants: Top 7%

College Timeline Class of 2020 PSAT in October ROTC and/or Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, or Naval Academies: Begin processing in the Spring of Sophomore Year.

Early Graduation Requirements Students considering graduating in three years must notify their counselor at the end of the 10th grade. A parent conference and a permission letter from the parent for early graduation are required. Students wishing to graduate mid-term of their senior year will discuss this option with their counselor at the pre-registration conference in the spring of their junior year. Students must meet End of Course Exam requirements in order to graduate early!

BHS Summer School All Students will receive a summer school flyer with the 5th six weeks report card. Please see the flyer for registration date, courses offered, dates, and cost. Be aware that your counselor or our principal must approve ANY summer school course outside of Brewer.
