What is expected? listen attentively to spoken language and show understanding by joining in and responding explore the patterns and sounds of language through songs and rhymes and link the spelling, sound and meaning of words engage in conversations; ask and answer questions; express opinions and respond to those of others; seek clarification and help speak in sentences, using familiar vocabulary, phrases and basic language structures

Who teaches French at Harry Gosling? Tutor A native French tutor, Zohra, comes into school to teach years 3, 4, 5 and 6. They have 30 minute lessons once a week.
Who teaches French at Harry Gosling? Class teachers Teachers play an active role in French lessons and model good language learning. French is embedded throughout the school in everyday routine, and staff have a ‘phrase of the week’ to use in classrooms.

What do French lessons at Harry Gosling look like? Written work Children write sentences independently using the model given. They work up to an extended piece of writing in year 6, which will prepare them for year 7 language lessons.
Bastille Day On 14th July, Harry Gosling will be celebrating the anniversary of the storming of the Bastille, which signified the start of the French Revolution. Children will learn about French history and culture in topic lessons. We will have an assembly in the morning where children from KS2 will showcase what they have been learning in French. Classes will enjoy a French picnic!
